The Hatchery and Farms of Muscongus Bay Aquaculture and Dodge Cove Marine Farm are highly committed to producing the best quality shellfish for farmers and consumers alike. The companies cultivate American oysters, hard clams, and bay scallops in the highly productive Damariscotta River in mid-coast Maine.
The Hatchery Specialist position is for individuals with prior experience working in a hatchery or similar environment. They will be expected to develop a thorough understanding of the hatchery operations and all systems involved. In addition to helping with routine daily tasks, they will be responsible for maintaining systems and equipment and undertaking more specialized tasks involved in shellfish husbandry.
Duties may include but are not limited to
- Monitoring condition of broodstock shellfish
- Feeding and care of all shellfish life stages
- Handling and quantifying bivalves during critical life stages
- Maintenance of tanks and auxiliary equipment
- Monitoring and data collection of environmental parameters
- Assisting facilities department with various tasks as needed
- Culling and grading of market oysters
- Processing oysters for shipment
Preferred skills:
- Teamwork, excellent communication, ability to learn quickly
- Basic maintenance skills, familiar with using hand and small power tools
- Experience with flowing water systems and equipment
- Ability to follow established protocols efficiently and with minimal supervision
- Organized and diligent record-keeping
- Excellent planning and follow-through
- Problem solving, foresight
- Must be able to lift 50lb
- Able to work in adverse weather conditions
- Positive attitude
- A good representative of the companies
- Must be able to work in the U.S., and have a valid U.S. driver’s license
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $21-23/ hr
