Description
Long Reach Oysters is seeking a part-time seasonal farm hand to work on our small family owned farm. Experience on boats, with outdoor labor, and with oysters is greatly desired. The position is flexible, but would ideally be 2 days a week, totaling 14-16 hours. The opening is available to be filled as soon as possible and extends to the end of August, but could continue into the fall if wanted.
Duties:
* Assist myself, the owner, with all work on the farm, including harvesting, sorting, cleaning, and tending the oysters.
* Assist in farm maintenance and boat maintenance as needed.
Skills & Qualifications:
* Experience: Prior experience with farm work, land or marine based, is preferred.
* Physical Standard: Ability to lift heavy loads (up to 40 lbs) outdoors in various weather conditions.
* Attention to Detail: Ability to follow instructions carefully and have a keen eye for oyster sizes and condition.
* Preparation: Arrive prepared for the day with all necessary items and equipment including food/water, and foul weather gear.
* Flexibility: Able to work in varying environments and demonstrate resiliency to changing conditions day-to-day.
* Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in person.
Working Conditions:
* Work Environment: Primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, working on a farm and in a
delivery vehicle.
* Physical Demands: This role involves manual labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
* Hours: Hours and days are flexible, but start at 8am, and generally conclude around 4 pm.
