Mussel Processing – Land Crew:
Bangs Island Mussels is looking for a dependable individual to join our team. In this role, you will learn the essential skills of land-based mussel inspection and processing.
Reports To:
The mussel processing position reports to the Mussel Processing Room manager.
Job Overview:
Year-round, we harvest mussels from our farm 2-4 days per week. You will work with our experienced mussel processing land crew in the afternoons, inspecting and processing mussels. This is essentially a “mussel assembly line.” The work is fast-paced and in a wet environment. We are looking for individuals who are eager to learn, develop problem-solving skills, meet production goals, and contribute to continuous improvement efforts.
Days and Hours
1:00pm to 10:00pm (the end time varies according to the harvest amount), Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Mussel inspection
- Hand inspection of mussels along a moving conveyor line
- Set-up and clean-up processing area
- Washing, bagging, weighing, and tagging mussels
- Miscellaneous land-based farm maintenance projects (i.e., net patching, making rope droppers, etc.)
- Actively participating in and contributing to a culture of continuous improvement within the processing facility
Qualifications and Requirements
No experience necessary! We will train you.
Requirements:
- Dependable and on-time
- Positive attitude
- A good work ethic.
- Ability to stand for the duration of the shift
- Ability to lift 50lbs.
- Ability to work as a team (a crew of 5-7)
- Waterproof boots
Job Type and Salary
- Part time (approximately 27 hours per week)
- $21 per hour
