Maine Oyster Company is a charming, cozy restaurant known for its fresh oysters and laid-back, welcoming atmosphere. We specialize in teaching shucking classes and providing fresh oysters and seafood and we take pride in providing a memorable experience for our guests. Our mission is to build a community through the oyster experience.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, personable individual to join our team as both an Oyster Shucking Instructor and Front of House Server. The ideal candidate will have a passion for aquaculture, an interest in teaching others, and a knack for delivering stellar customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

Oyster Shucking Instructor:

  • Lead interactive, hands-on oyster shucking classes for guests, sharing knowledge about different types of oysters, proper techniques, and seafood culture.
  • Provide clear, safe, and engaging instructions while ensuring participants are confident and comfortable.
  • Set up, maintain, and clean oyster shucking stations, ensuring all tools and materials are in top condition.
  • Create a friendly, educational environment where participants can enjoy learning and trying oysters.
  • Educate guests about the sourcing and sustainability of the oysters we serve.
    Answer any questions about oyster varieties, preparation, and serving techniques.

Front of House Server:

  • Greet guests warmly and provide an exceptional dining experience from start to finish.
  • Take orders, make recommendations, and ensure customers' needs are met throughout their meal.
  • Handle food and beverage service, ensuring prompt and accurate delivery.
  • Communicate effectively with the kitchen and other staff members to ensure smooth operations.
  • Handle payments and tips, ensuring customer satisfaction with every transaction.

Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in the food and beverage industry (server, bartender, or related role).
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; must be comfortable speaking to and instructing small groups.
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn about aquaculture and oyster shucking.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently in a restaurant environment.
  • A passion for providing excellent customer service and making guests feel welcome.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
