We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team as the full-time Ocean Farming Technician. A successful applicant must have extensive experience working on boats, with fishing or aquaculture gear, and be willing and able to navigate and complete regulatory paperwork. This person will also have excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail. The Seaweed Aquaculture Technician will work independently as necessary and is expected to be a self-starter, work well as part of a mission-driven team, and be adaptable and flexible to the frequent changes in an exciting start-up atmosphere. This position reports directly to the Supply and Advancement Manager and works as part of the ASF Supply Team. 

Essential Functions: 

  • Work directly with Supply and Advancement Manager to build and sustain a successful partner farmer network
  • Support Supply and Advancement Manager with harvest and seeding season logistics including seed drop-offs and kelp pick-ups.
  • Support Partner farmers with seasonal on the water harvesting and seeding techniques
  • Implement and coordinate farm audit program 
  • Support ASF aquaculture advocacy and outreach efforts 
  • Manage aquaculture lease support program for partner farmer network 
  • Provide assistance in our Cultivation Center during fall cultivation season as needed 


  • Substantial boat experience, with a high attention to safety
  • Deep knowledge of,  and experience with, marine gear & deploying equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, set and implement priorities
  • Strength in multi-tasking and a keen attention to detail & efficiency
  • Adaptability – as well as an appreciation and understanding for changing and nascent systems as part of a start-up
  • Willingness to work according to seasonality & tides and in variable weather conditions 
  • Strong interpersonal and professional skills
  • Degree in related field, business, or significant experience
  • Ability to work productively in an ambiguous and high-energy environment
  • Strong written communication
  • Excellent problem solving skills 
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to navigate the Maine coastline well
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs independently
  • Preferred experience with pallet jacks, fork trucks, truck loading docks, dock hoists
  • Patience, a sense of humor, and a sense of humility and optimism 


  • This position would be paid an annual base salary, have access to the company’s health benefits package, paid vacation, and a bonus structure based on individual and team performance.
