Production Manager Summary

The Kelp Production Supervisor is responsible for overseeing production/packaging, maintaining equipment, inventory, and our kelp production space. This person will be the face of Ocean Approved’s (DBA Atlantic Sea Farms) production operations and is expected to effectively and efficiently manage all production staff and the company’s seasonal workforce within Atlantic Sea Farms’ mission and values. This position reports to the Director of Food Innovation and collaborates closely with the rest of the management team.

Our social mission is laser focused on working with Maine’s fishing communities to diversify coastal incomes through kelp farming in the lobstering off-season while also improving our coastal environment.   • Manage Production operations
    • Supervise production staff
    • Manage payroll for food production staff
    • Ensure products meet quality standards for appearance and taste
    • Ensure products meet food safety standards
    • Manage inventories for product, raw materials, packaging, and supply and coordinate with purchasing agent and kelp supply team to replenish
    • Produce product to meet orders and forecasts supplied by Sales and Marketing
    • Manage harvest-season production schedules in coordination with the Supply Team
  • Maintain equipment
    • Develop Preventative Maintenance schedule for all equipment
    • Complete PM on equipment
    • Repair equipment as needed o Manage vendor relationships with equipment supply and repair companies
  • Manage Production Facility
    • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation as required for a ready to eat food facility
    • Ensure common areas are clean, useable, and updated
    • Maintain facility to FDA, USDA, and GFSI standards and complete GFSI documentation
  • Other duties as required


  • Strong background in production and people supervision, food production experience preferred, but not required
  • Strong background in equipment maintenance preferred
  • Experience maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule
  • Preferred 5+ years of experience in employee management
  • Ability to problem solve on the fly and remain agile
  • Ability to work with heavy equipment
  • Attention to detail and ability to think creatively and adapt to changing needs
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to learn food safety and food production regulatory requirements, experience in these areas preferred
  • Project Management experience a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member
  • Food Safety certifications preferred (or a willingness/aptitude for gaining required certifications)
  • MS word and excel competent
  • Enthusiasm and dedication to working as part of a small, agile team on projects that improve the well-being of our state
  • Comfortable with computer and various computer applications
  • Ability to bring optimism, enthusiasm, and a strong spirit for collaboration every day
